After moving to live in the USA in 2002, Rayve began exploring secular music. At first, he was drawn to R&B music but eventually he decided to focus on dancehall.
Rayve made his recording debut in 2009 with a dancehall track titled Party Sick under the stage name Wayne J. He changed his name to Rayve in 2014 when he discovered that another artiste was using the same stage name.
