I didn't diss Dexta Daps - Macka Diamond clears air on new single
Dancehall icon Macka Diamond has been getting mixed reactions for her recent counteraction of Dexta Daps' single 'Chinese Jordan'. Some fans of dancehall have lent their support to the record, while others have trashed the effort claiming it is disrespectful to Dexta Daps.
Seemingly not bothered by the opposition of some fans, Macka Diamond told The STAR that her version of the song has been performing well and she did not disrespect Dexta Daps.
"Everybody knows that Macka Diamond is the original counteraction mumma. I have been doing this for years. Remember, I usually counteract a lot of Vybz Kartel songs? Counteractions put me on the forefront. When Vybz Kartel did Tek I followed up with Tek Con. So it is no secret, everybody knows me as that type of artiste. When I heard the Dexta Daps single, I definitely knew that the song needed a part two that girls can respond to.
Balance in message
Not saying that I am disrespecting him or anything like that, but usually when a song needs a counteraction, it means we want a balance in message. So the girls will love it because in the parties now when the Dexta Daps is played the males love it, so now the females will have something to walk out to," she said.
The deejay told the STAR that the response to the song has been favourable. "The song a get forward in the parties, it mash up Nipples Tuesday the other night, right now, mi inna every segment, the gal segment, dancing segment, and one drop segment. We gone with every segment," a confident Macka Diamond said.
Well-known producer Omar 'Benji' Benjamin of Frenz 4 Real, who originally produced the Dexta Daps record, said he doesn't like counteractions, but he was not going to fight the Macka Diamond's creative output. He also stated that another female artiste called Klassy, also did a counteraction. However, Benjamin says in the future both female acts should seek clearance before releasing such records.
I know that Macka Diamond may not have contacted me first, but Klassy is a young artiste who knows me so she should have got clearance first. The thing is mi no like dem tings deh, mi like creativity, and mi like work with upcoming artistes, so Klassy should have linked me first," Benji said.
Macka Diamond recently released another record titled Praise God, which features her long-time collaborator Unycorn.
