In his first and only local performance for 2016, dub poetry pioneer and innovator Oku Onuora heads a line-up of conscious artistes in a special roots reggae music, dub rap and poetry party on Saturday at Vegie-Meals-on-Wheels, Regal Plaza [aka Meskel Square] in Cross Roads.

The Jawara Ellis earth strong special showcase features prolific international roots reggae singer Micah Shemaiah, rising indie world beat and reggae artiste Vanessa Lee, native Afro-reggae artiste Simiji, and the enigmatic and versatile Noel 'Rozah Roze' Ellis, aka Mr Lock it Back - a popular star performer on the Ity and Fancy Cat Show and eldest son of the legendary Alton Ellis.

Other performers include rappers Kash Kapri and Kapitan 3D alongside poets Meeka Nyota, Kevaughn Ellis and birthday boy Jawara himself, who is also using the occasion to mark his birthday, launch his new album IROOTS and pay tribute to the godfather and undisputed grandmaster of dub poetry, Oku Onuora.

When asked about gate price Jawara quipped, "Buy the album, give the performers strength, support the kitchen and bar and full joy the loving celebration. That, plus good behaviour, is the only cost of admission."

The roots dub rap, music and poetry performance party gets going at 8 p.m. with pre-show musical selections provided by King Harar and WAVEmpress. Showtime is 10 p.m. sharp.
