Wiz Khalifa has no beef with Popcaan
Internationally renowned rapper Wiz Khalifa recently shut down social-media rumours that he and dancehall artiste Popcaan are at loggerheads.
Rumours that the two were in a dispute began circulating late last month following the Red Bull Culture Clash in the United Kingdom. During the clash, Popcaan drew for Drake's hit single One Dance while shouting 'f**k Wiz Khalifa'.
There was no elaboration but that statement was all social media users needed to stir up drama, claiming the entertainers aren't seeing eye to eye. That rumour was, however, put to rest last weekend when Khalifa made it clear that he and the 'Unruly Boss' have no beef.
In a recent interview with DJ Whoo Kid on the international radio programme, The Whoolywood Shuffle, the rapper said he had no idea how the rumour started. "He came hard with the whole 'f**k Wiz Khalifa thing but we have no beef, zero beef," he said. "It was all a part of the competition we were supposed to bad mouth each crew."
He explained that if people understood the format of a sound clash (the Culture Clash copied that format) they would have understood that what went down onstage was all fun. "That's the concept of the culture clash. If you listen to each dub you see that we're going at each other. The culture clash is about using songs from different genres all on one stage, going at it, clashing," he explained. "It was cool; it was fun to be a part of. Each crew was into it and all in all it was a really good musical experience."
Our news team was promised a comment from Popcaan's management team but up to press time subsequent calls to them went unanswered.
This year's edition of Red Bull Culture Clash featured the likes of Eskimo Dance vs UKG All Stars, and MixPak vs Wiz Khalifa & Taylor Gang. MixPak's team included Popcaan and Spice. MixPak won the clash.
