Philly Jerk Fest launched in style
The Reserve Wine Bar & Lounge in downtown Philadelphia was the location for the launch of the 2016 Philadelphia Jerk Festival recently. It was attended by members of the entertainment fraternity, representatives from the Mayor's office in Philadelphia, and, media.
Promoted by Jabari Productions, headed by Clinton Garibaldi, the second staging of the festival takes place on August 28 at the Fairmount Park, Chamounix Drive, in Philadelphia.
"This year, we have made an effort to diversify our entertainment line-up and, of course, more vendors will be involved, which means a lot more food, and jerk will be available for patrons," Garibaldi explained.
Over the past few years a number of jerk festivals have sprung up across the United States, with very strong support from patrons.
"We host the only jerk festival here in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware Valley, area, and this is an event that people look forward to," said Garibaldi. "This event supports the local community. It provides income for the vendors and provides well needed support for our partner the West Philadelphia soccer organisation, which benefits children in our inner city".
Delicious mouth-watering jerked chicken wings, salmon, festival, and pastry were available at the launch courtesy of The Flavor Spot, one of the vendors who will be participating in the jerk festival.
"Food is our specialty, and patrons can look forward to some great food from us at the jerk festival," said Cashiema Green of The Flavor Spot, with locations at N. Broad Street and Rising Sun Avenue in Philadelphia.
The festival will feature performances from Don Andre, Lady G, Luciano, Agent Sasco, Voicemail, Omari, Leadpipe and Saddis, Oriel, Ky-Enie, Raine Seville, Braata Folk Singers, Skillibangs, and Itsamystery.
