Ilabash seeks success with Kartel cover
Stampede Music label producer Desmond 'Ilabash' Ledgister is banking on the success of his latest production, a cover version of the hit song, 'The Best of Me', by dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel.
"Originally, Vybz Kartel had recorded the cover version with Gaza Slim on the Outlaw riddim just months before he was incarcerated, but the song did not get the real justice it deserved," Ledgister said. "So I took the vocals and built a new riddim around it and took out Gaza Slim, so it seems that Kartel is singing to his Gaza fans, and it will be a treat for them to hear him singing in a different mood. I have got a lot of positive feedback from the song so far, with one YouTube channel racking up over 100,000 views, but I have got almost no support from radio. You know how that go already."
The original song was recorded by Olivia Newton-John and David Foster, who is best known for his work on the St Elmo's Fire soundtrack. The soft rock single was a top-10 hit on the Billboard AC charts in the US and a Top 40 hit in Canada.
"I believe that Vybz Kartel is the greatest artiste of his generation, and this song is one of the best songs released for him in the year 2016. Go check it out and buy it on iTunes," he said.
Ledgister has produced songs with Sizzla, Anthony B, Shawn Storm, George Nooks, Macka Diamond, Spice, Lady G, Jah Mason and many others during his production career. He also operates a successful CD-burning business called Stampede Music.
