KickRaux takes J'can music further on international scale
He has done remixes for the likes of Jay-Z, Ty Dolla Sign, Major Lazer, Machel Montano and Busta Rhymes, among others. Jamaica-born producer KickRaux is bringing Jamaican music to the ears of international music lovers.
His latest production Feelin U, which features American rapper Tyga, Demarco, Ayo Jay and Doctor, is from the collaborative album Forward by KickRaux and Capital Xtra DJ Ras Kwame.
"At the moment, the song is all over radio in Africa, London and other parts of Europe, Canada. The song has a lot of buzz internationally and the way it's growing, it's going to be one of the biggest songs in the world," KickRaux stated.
The former Portmore resident now resides between Los Angeles and Florida. He revealed how he first got into music production.
ASSISTING AT STUDIOS
"I got my start in music a few years ago studying under Grammy-winning producer Neal Pogue, one of the main producers for the group Outkast. My real music studies came during my early time interning and assisting at studios. There I learned that a great song is the result of not just great production, but also the songwriting and how well the artiste fits on the production".
He reminisced about the first production he worked on professionally. "My first production was producing the Jay-Z featured remix of MIA's XXXO for her album MAYA. It was a crazy experience because Jay-Z actually had the mix engineer redo the final mix to match my rough mix. At that moment I knew that this was something that I could do on a big level," said KickRaux.
His credits include the Major Lazer remix of Kranium's Nobody Has to Know; Machel Montano's Bring the Beat and Bend Down Pause, featuring Runtown & WizKid; Chronixx and Kabaka Pyramid's Lyrical Anomaly (from the mixtape Accurate).
