All set for Stone Love Anniversary
Iconic sound system Stone Love is gearing up to celebrate its 44th anniversary later this month.
Sound system owner, Winston 'Wee Pow' Powell, told THE WEEKEND STAR that the annual celebration that will be held on the grounds of the Red Stripe Oval is a calendar favourite among Jamaicans.
"It's definitely one of the parties that people look forward to each year," he said.
For the first time the event will be held on Christmas Eve, and Powell said the closeness to Christmas is adding to the atmosphere of excitement surrounding the event.
"The package this year will be great because we have Bounty Killer passing through. It's just going to be a fun night filled with entertainment and the people will just enjoy themselves," he said.
Though Bounty Killer is expected to draw a bumper crowd, Powell is urging patrons to come out for the show that will be put on by the different sound systems and their resident selectors.
"Fire Links will be playing at Stone Love Anniversary for the very first time. So, from a sound system point of view, the show will be great," he said. "All of Stone Love's selectors will be there, and we will have special guest selectors such as Boom Boom, Chris Dymond and Allan Lad from Canada and a lot more."
The iconic sound system will also be in reflective mood on the anniversary night, as they honour several persons that have made significant contributions to dancehall music over the years. He did not give names of the persons being considered, but said the honourees range from dancers to selectors to artistes to promoters.
With tickets for the event costing $600 presold and $800 at the gate, Powell is encouraging everyone to come out and have fun.
