Shaggy heading for Hall of Fame

December 06, 2016

International recording star Orville 'Shaggy' Burrell is to be inducted into the Council of Voluntary Social Services (CVSS) Hall of Fame for 10 years of outstanding voluntary support to the Bustamante Children's Hospital.

A member of the Hall of Fame is selected every two years for dedicated and significant contribution to national development through volunteerism.

This year, Shaggy presented a cheque for $55 million to the Bustamante Children's Hospital, representing proceeds from the 2016 fundraiser Shaggy and Friends Concert.

Since its inception in 2009, the concert has raised more than $255 million to acquire 450 pieces of medical equipment to treat over 77,000 children each year.

The induction will take place at the third staging of the CVSS Hall of Fame and Volunteer Awards on Thursday, December 8, at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

The CVSS awards celebrate and honour volunteers that continue to support and improve social development by giving of their self and time.

The awards are presented to individuals and organisations that are exceptional in their achievements, and demonstrate strong leadership qualities and a commitment to serve in Jamaica's nation building.

Other winners for this year include: Alethia Peart - Outstanding Volunteer of the Year; Neville Charlton - Young Leader; Wisynco Group - Private Sector Volunteer of the Year; Nadine Grant-Brown, Public Sector Volunteer of the Year; Digicel Foundation, Non-Profit Organisation, and Jamaica 4-H Clubs, CVSS Member Agency of the Year.
