Devin Di Dakta celebrates Grammy nomination
Overjoyed is how Devin Di Dakta recalled feeling after finding out he was on the list of nominees for the Grammy Award in the Best Reggae Album category.
The nomination is for 'Sly & Robbie Presents ... Reggae For Her.
After winning the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall competition just last year, his nomination comes as a shock to many.
But the confident and charismatic deejay told THE STAR that he expected the nomination.
"The album has great music and when music good you affi always expect the best, and I'm always expecting the highest result for my work," he said.
But he admitted the news still managed to somehow reduce him to tears.
"Me now jump up and start beat down di whole place, wake up the entire apartment and a tell them sorry, but mi affi make noise today because mi just get nominated fi Grammy. It's a great feeling," he said.
Devin and singer JL, a former Rising Stars contestant, wrote eight of the tracks on the album.
"Me and JL we made good music and we had a good team who promoted the album. Tuff Gong handled the distribution and Sly and Robbie produced the record and them being involved have something to do with the nomination, but at the end of the day it comes down to the music because the songs still have to be good," he said.
Also up for the reggae Grammy are J Boog for Rose Petals; Ziggy Marley for Ziggy Marley; Raging Fyah for Everlasting; Rebelution for Falling Into Place; and SOJA for SOJA - Live In Virginia.
Marley has won six reggae Grammys, three with The Melody Makers and three in his solo career.
J Boog is an American reggae and R and B vocalist and songwriter. He released his first solo album Hear Me Roar in 2007.
Rebelution is a California-based reggae band that has released five previous studio albums, starting with Courage To Grow in 2007.
SOJA (Soldiers Of Jah Army) is an American Grammy-nominated reggae band based in Arlington, Virginia, formed in 1997.
The band has released seven studio albums.
