Rebel Salute launched in New York
Rebel Salute was officially launched at the Milk River Restaurant and Lounge in Brooklyn, New York, on November 2.
The launch was the first of three media launches held under the theme '25 Years Not Out'. Rebel Salute will be celebrating this milestone in January 2018.
Listed in the Billboard magazine's top-four festivals in the Caribbean, a quarter-century of this uniquely Jamaican entertainment brand has captured the heart of thousands of reggae lovers at home and around the world.
The New York media launch had the endorsement of the Jamaica Tourist Board, Jamaica's entertainment ministry, the New York Senate via Senator Leroy Comrie, Jewel Dunn's River Beach Resort and Spa, and the festival's impressive cadre of partners.
The almost-capacity audience in attendance saw various presentations, including one via video by Entertainment Minister Olivia 'Babsy' Grange.
Chairman of Rebel Salute, Patrick 'Tony Rebel' Barrett, gave an 'edutaining' presentation.
True to the Rebel Salute brand and values, the presentation gave a colourful description of the growth and development journey throughout the past 24 years.
Director of Rebel Salute, Jahyudah Barrett, then spoke about the significance of the 25th anniversary and what can be expected of this staging.
The night was complemented by rousing performances by Mystic Mikey, Lutan Fyah, Ras Shiloh, Queen Ifrica and Tony Rebel.
The evening's proceedings were capped off by a surprise presentation by MC Irwin Claire.
The surprise of the evening was a declaration to Rebel Salute by The New York State Senate. The declaration was in honour of the show's anniversary and the holistic values and attitudes that the brand supports.
Rebel Salute 2018 will be held on January 12 and January 13 at Grizzly's Plantation Cove in St Ann.
