Reggae star Etana rang in the new year in Brazil after she delivered a stunning performance in Sao Luis that country on December 30 in front of 50,000 cheering fans.

"The performance in Sao Luis was 'wicked'. They sang the songs word for word. It was amazing to see the crowd couple up and waltz and slow wine to the reggae music. The venue was packed, and it was amazing to see how they turned out for reggae night. The promoter said 50,000 people packed the streets," Etana said.

Sao Luis is the capital and largest city of the Brazilian state of Maranhao. Etana had to brush up on her Portuguese phrases before her performance.

"I sang I Am Not Afraid in Portugeuse; they don't speak English, but they know the songs. I also gave them directions to sing Blessings; you know, when the women should sing, and when the men should sing," she said. "Yu shoulda see me ah practise mi Portuguese the night before mi touch the stage; luckily, I remembered the word. The energy was amazing."

She will be performing in Fortaleza, the state capital of Ceara, located in northeastern Brazil, tomorrow.

When she returns to Jamaica next week, she will turn her attention towards promoting the 14-track album, Reggae Fever, which will be released on March 8.

This album showcases a more sexually aggressive side with songs like My Man and Burned.

Etana will be doing a 30-show North American tour from February 9 to March 31, and she will jet off to do shows in the UK and on the African continent.
