Richie Innocent drops 'special' poem
Though he did not win Best Spoken Word/Dub Poet at the recently held International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), dub poet Richie Innocent is in high spirits.
He performed at the awards show, which was held in conjunction with the Chicago Music Awards, at the Logan Center for The Arts in Hyde Park, Chicago.
He earned a rousing round of applause from the audience for his poem That Monster, which addresses the terrible crime problem that is currently plaguing Jamaica.
"I had a wonderful time ... It was my first time performing at an international event of that magnitude. It was an awesome experience," he said.
He is getting ready to release a new poem titled I am Special.
The poem, which is slated to be released on iTunes in April, is the lead track from his upcoming spoken word EP, which will be released later this year.
