Ghetto Splash haffi keep ... Organiser confident show will go on
Despite boasting one of the most enviable local line-ups of the year, Ghetto Splash concert will have to go on without sponsorship.
Ghetto Splash is scheduled for December 18 at the Waterhouse Mini-Stadium.
The highly anticipated community event promises performances from the likes of Popcaan, Aidonia, Beenie Man, Govana, Tommy Lee, Ding Dong, Bounty Killer, and many others.
But with just three weeks to go until showtime, it is too late to secure major sponsorship. As such, Ghetto Splash organiser Patrick Roberts is making one last effort.
The event planner is sending an appeal to any individuals or entities who can find offer any relief, perhaps through donations. "We're calling for any charitable minds to help us underwrite the cost of hosting this event," he told THE STAR.
But whether or not the appeal to the public bears fruit, Roberts is adamant that Ghetto Splash will happen.
"It haffi keep," Roberts said.
A few entities have already heeded the call. According to Roberts, Clear Sound and Lights will deliver, providing the stage and the lighting set-up.
The show will also get some assistance from a local entertainment magnate.
"Downsound Entertainment has come to the rescue to underwrite some of the production expenses," Roberts said.
Ghetto Splash enjoyed five consecutive years of title sponsor support from Boom Energy Drink.
In a recent interview with The STAR, Boom representative Chieftain Campbell disclosed that the sponsorship proposal for the 2018 staging was submitted late.
Regardless of the lateness, Campbell claimed the application was treated as top priority because of the long-standing relationship between the brands.
He explained that although it was decided Boom would no longer participate as title sponsors, they still offered to be part of the event.
