Zia Benjamin to release EP
Having garnered much attention on the local music scene with her last two singles ' Mr Neverman' and ' Rudie', Zia Benjamin is looking to cement her place in the industry with her debut EP.
Set to be released before the end of 2019, the compilation will show off the singer's unique musical style, one she describes as "rum-shop blues".
"I really try to stick to my roots on all my songs, so this EP will be Jamaican. It will also be jazzy but not old - modern soulful with a little pop. As an artiste, I don't want to box myself in in terms of my sound. So you will also hear some EDM and other genres. And when the world gets to know me a little better, they will see that all these sounds together is ME," she said.
According to Benjamin, the project will be titled Love In A Plastic Cup and will take listeners on a beautiful roller-coaster journey of emotions.
She noted that she was going through a break-up at the time when she penned some of the songs.
"The thing about music which always scares me and makes me happy at the same time is that it's my diary. I'm an artiste who shares what's going on in my life, and this EP will do that. I was baring my soul in the recordings on each individual song before I even thought about making it into a project," she said.
Benjamin has steadily been building a fan base locally in recent times, but the songstress has been making moves internationally for more than five years.
Having been hailed for her unique sound and style from the likes of Major Lazer, Bemjamin says she is more than ready to stake her claim in music.
"Music chose me; all I did was answer the call. And having answered the call, I'm going to take it as far as I can," she said. "I want to create the type of music that touch people and not just resonates with them today but speak to them years from now."
