1Biggs Don urges students to focus in school
As the summer holiday ends and many children return to school for face-to-face learning, viral sensation and musical artiste 1Biggs Don is urging students to take school seriously.
"For the boys now going to high school, please leave friends alone. Don't take up weed and drugs in high school. Please, please just focus. At least if it's even to get two [CSEC] subjects fi mek mommy proud after the five years of spending. And to the girls, just leave boys alone. The time will come so fi right now just focus pon the education," he cautioned.
Arguably having one of the most popular tracks this summer with Boy Affi, which catapulted him to fame, 1Biggs Don, given name, Jamaal Thompson, is a graduate of the Porus High School in Manchester. He then moved on to the HEART/NSTA Trust where he sought certification as a chef. However, he began to rise to stardom after a video was released with the 18-year-old deejaying. He explained to THE STAR that even if high school students want to get into the music industry, they can still continue with their studies and work on their music dreams.
"You have to set up a schedule. There is a time and a place for everything. Weekdays are school time. You have the weekends for your free time. You can use those days to really study the industry. You really have to spend some time learning the industry. You have to work on the craft. You have to practise, you have to go studio, you have to write songs and put in the work," he said.
1Biggs Don began his musical journey in 2019. Now with his dreams becoming a reality, he is currently focused on making more hit records. The recently released video for his debut track has racked up more than five million views on YouTube. He has since released other tracks such as Money Rain and Best Setta Polo.
He was brought out during Shenseea's performance on Reggae Sumfest in July and made a cameo during Dream Weekend. He has also been doing several shows across the Caribbean.
"For the rest of the year you can just look out for more great music from me," he said.
