Skip Marley excited about NAACP nomination
Reggae singer Skip Marley is excited about his recent NAACP Image Award nomination for his 2025 single, In Our Sight.
Produced by Grammy-nominated producer Dwayne Chin-Queen, In Our Sight was nominated in the Outstanding International Song category. It is up against Tyla's Is It, Burna Boy's Love, and Davido's With You.
Skip, who is the grandson of reggae royalty Bob Marley, spoke to THE STAR about the nomination, which celebrates diversity in the entertainment industry.
"I feel grateful and give thanks for the recognition, as it represents more than just music. It honours message, purpose, and upliftment. To be acknowledged by the NAACP is humbling, especially knowing their legacy of standing for justice, culture, and the voice of the people," Skip told THE STAR.
When asked why he thinks he was singled out for the nomination, he said that the spirit in the music reflects his nature and this is what has been recognised.
"The vibration creates songs that reflect what's happening in the world, while pointing towards unity, awareness, and love for one another. When music comes from a genuine place and carries a conscious message, it reaches people beyond borders."
The Grammy-nominated singer's dream is to awaken the consciousness of the people through the impact of his music.
"To encourage people to think, to feel, and to stay true to their spirit. If someone listens and feels more grounded, more aware, or more inspired to move with love and righteousness, then the music has served its purpose."
New music, he stated, is in the works, with a song and video set to be released in February.
Skip expressed hope that his musical legacy will reflect the fact that sound can heal, unite, and awaken people and unify mankind. His message to young artistes is to stay true to themselves and their purpose.
"Don't rush the process, and don't compromise your message for quick results. Study the craft, respect the roots and move with integrity. When the intention is pure, everything else will come together in its right time," he said.
