Policeman and lawyer charged with sexual assault
A policeman and a lawyer were charged on Monday following investigations by the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA).
The attorney was charged with indecent assault, grievous sexual assault and sexual touching, following a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), into incidents that reportedly occurred between 2010 and 2015.
The matter was reported to CISOCA in June 2015, following which an investigation was carried out and the file submitted to the DPP.
The police constable is charged with rape and grievous sexual assault which were reportedly committed in the Corporate Area in August of this year. The incident was reported to CISOCA, which, following a probe, submitted a file to the DPP for a ruling.
Both men appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court today where the constable was granted J$200,000 bail with surety to return to court on Monday, January 25. The attorney was granted J$150,000 bail with surety and is to reappear in court on Tuesday, January 26.
Head of CISOCA, Superintendent Enid Ross, made an appeal for the public to report any abuse or suspected abuse. "Only by coming forward and reporting to the police can intervention be made to end the abuse and the perpetrators made to answer for their actions," she said.
