Bridge to be named in honour of Natalie Neita Garvey
A St Catherine bridge is set to bear the name of Member of Parliament Natalie Neita Garvey in recognition of her service to the community.
The Rentcombe Bridge, located in the Above Rocks division, is to be renamed in honour of the St Catherine North Central MP after the St Catherine Municipal Corporation approved a resolution supporting the move.
The resolution followed a petition by Above Rocks Councillor Desmond Chambers and was passed without objection at the corporation’s monthly general meeting on Thursday.
Corporation Chairman Norman Scott announced the decision, noting that the next step is to secure the necessary approval and arrange a ceremony to mark the renaming.
Councillors were also advised that the MP’s name would have to be inscribed on the structure.
A visit to the rural community found residents welcoming the proposed name change, with Neita Garvey being credited with playing an instrumental role in the bridge’s existence.
The bridge provides an important route for residents travelling into and out of the community.
