Old man beats room-mate for dragging woman
A Golden Age Home resident pleaded guilty to unlawfully wounding his room-mate with a piece of board when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Friday.
Delroy McKenzie, who had to sit down in the dock because of his feeble state, was charged with unlawful wounding after he used a board to beat one of his room-mates on his hand.
He told presiding judge Judith Pusey that he was defending a female resident who the complainant was trying to force into the room they both share with five other men.
"Seven of us stay in the room, and the morning the rain did a fall and him a drag the lady in the room, and she a tell him to stop and him wouldn't stop," McKenzie explained. "And mi use the piece of board me use to fix mi shoes to lick him pon him hand."
Pusey told McKenzie that if he could secure an eyewitness, the matter could be sent for trial. "If what you saying is true, you have not really committed an offence. You were defending the lady who was being dragged and you are entitled to a trial," Pusey said.
McKenzie is to return to court on June 17.
