Seven guns found in one day
Seven guns were recovered by members of the security forces in three separate incidents on Thursday.
The largest find involved the recovery of five firearms, including a high-powered rifle, on Ducketts Road, Cambridge in St James.
According to the Corporate Communications Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, police officers from the Lottery Scam Task Force and the Mobile Reserve conducted multiple raids in the community on Thursday night when the weapons and ammunition were seized.
The cops said that they recovered one M16 assault rifle, two 12-gauge shotguns, two 9mm pistols, forty-nine 9mm rounds, one hundred and sixty-six 12-gauge rounds; seventy-six lead sheets; six cellular phones; three ski masks; one laptop and one notebook containing identity information of persons residing overseas.
Ten persons were taken into custody in relation to the find.
Also in St James, two men were taken into custody in relation to the seizure of a firearm and several rounds of ammunition in Red Dirt, Flanker, on Thursday.
Reports from the Coral Gardens police are that about 1:20 p.m., they were on patrol when they accosted two men who aroused their suspicions and searched them. The firearm - a Taurus 9mm pistol, with a magazine containing twelve 9mm rounds of ammunition, was found in a knapsack one of the men was carrying. They were subsequently arrested.
The seventh gun - one Astra 9mm firearm - was recovered by the Narcotics Division during an operation on Arabian Sea Drive, Seaview Gardens. The weapon, along with 15 rounds of ammunition, was found under a face basin in a house.
