Mother granted bail after burning son with hot fork
A woman who was charged with wounding her four-year-old son was granted $50,000 bail when she appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court last Friday.
Nickeisha Beckford was arrested on October 8, for using a hot fork and hot spoon to burn her son.
The court ordered a psych evaluation on Beckford, and she is said to be in good health to make her plea.
Presiding Judge Chester Crooks told the court that he is not a doctor, but based on the psych evaluation and the circumstances surrounding the charges, it seemed as if the accused was going through a stressful situation which triggered this reaction.
The prosecution told the court that on October 6, the child's father got news that Beckford had harmed his son.
It is said that he made a report to the police and took his son to the Bustamante Hospital for Children for treatment.
Beckford is to make another appearance before the court on January 31.
In the interim, Crooks told her that she is not allowed to have any contact with her son, who is presently in the father's care.
