The United States Attorney for the District of North Dakota last week recognised the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime Branch, Fugitive Apprehension Team at a ceremony in Bismarck, North Dakota.

The Fugitive Apprehension Team was responsible for the coordination and apprehension of 14 defendants who were involved in transnational organised crime associated with lottery scamming.

The 14 defendants were ultimately extradited to stand trial in the United States. Receiving the awards on behalf of her colleagues was Detective Woman Corporal Nashema Newell.

The 14 defendants were hit with federal charge in a wire/mail fraud and money-laundering conspiracy investigation dubbed 'Operation Hard Copy.' The charges allege the scam bilked at least 90 mostly elderly US residents out of over US$5.7 million.
