Man destroys ex's bed and mattress

After destroying his ex-girlfriend's bed and mattress, Ricardo Dyte said that he was provoked in doing so when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.

Dyte, who was charged with malicious destruction of property, explained that he was first attacked by her.

"She claim seh wi lef and mi seh yeah. One Sunday now after a funeral mi and anada girl inna the house, she come and rush afta me wid a machete. Mi duck and run outta the house. Mi even chip up myself in all a dat," he told the court.

He said that after the incident, he placed the complainant's bed and mattress outside and left.

"When mi come back a mi house everything mash up. Mi TV, fridge, stove, glass table, everything she mash up. So mi just get ignorant and mash up her things back," he added..

When judge Chester Crooks asked the complainant if she damaged any of his belongings; she replied: "Not guilty, Your Honour."

Dyte, who got his bail extended, is to return to court on July 2 to pay restitution which is estimated at $60,000.
