The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William, and Kate, toured the facilities at the Spanish Town Hospital in St Catherine earlier today.

Like Queen Elizabeth II, the hospital is celebrating its 70th year in operation.

The royal couple heard first-hand how front line staff responded to the COVID pandemic, and how the healthcare system in Jamaica is being affected.

The couple also visited the neonatal and maternity ward along with Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton.

The royals were greeted with cheers from hospital staff and dozens of patients.

William and Kate arrived in Jamaica on Tuesday afternoon for a three-day visit as part of the queen’s platinum jubilee, marking the 70th anniversary of the accession to the throne of England.

Despite much warm welcome from many locals, there are still demonstrations calling on the monarchy to pay reparations for slavery on the island.
