Wanted murder suspect 'Richie' killed in police shootout
A man known only by his alias “Richie”, who police say was wanted in connection with a murder, was shot and killed during an alleged confrontation with cops in Christiana, Manchester, yesterday.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the fatal shooting, which occurred on Wildman Street shortly after 3:15 p.m.
According to police reports, a team went into the area acting on intelligence that a murder suspect was in the vicinity.
The operation reportedly led investigators to a bar, where they encountered Richie.
Police allege that Richie was armed with an illegal firearm and confronted the lawmen, prompting them to take defensive action.
He was shot and injured during the encounter.
The police reportedly seized the firearm and rushed Richie to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said Richie was wanted in connection with the July 24 murder of a shopkeeper in Alston, Clarendon, and was also out on bail in relation to another murder.
He had reportedly been charged in connection with the September 4, 2024 killing of 29-year-old Romario White, who was shot at a bar in Christiana, Manchester.
INDECOM is investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
