PHOENIX, United States (CMC):

There was father and son success at Turf Paradise for Andrew and Andre Ramgeet, as the Jamaicans each won once on the eight-race card here Saturday.

Veteran Andrew won the day's final race when he steered 2-1 chance Rhetorical to victory in a 1300 metres event while his son Andre picked up race four over 1500 metres with 8-1 bet Irish Lass.

While Andrew is five off the lead in second on 54 wins, Andre sits near the bottom of the standings on five wins.

Defending champion Scott Stevens leads with 59 wins.

It was Andre Ramgeet who got into the winners' enclosure first when he paired with bay filly Irish Lass to beat the three-year-old maidens by 1-1/2 lengths.

Andrew's win came when he piloted eight-year-old chestnut gelding to a half-length triumph over the four-year-old and upwards.

The pair kept in touch with the leaders, then overhauled pace-setter Allen's Crown before getting home with Flat Gone in pursuit.
