The cream of the crop in high school girls track and field talent are expected to be in the spotlight today and tomorrow at the Digicel Grand Prix Central Championships, G.C. Foster College in Spanish Town.

The event, the fourth in the 2017 Digicel Grand Prix Athletics Championships, will see track heats and field events topping the schedule ahead of tomorrow's finals.

Edwin Allen High, whose girls team have won the past two championships, are again favoured in a powerhouse female battle where they will again go toe to toe with Holmwood Technical, fast-rising Hydel High, consistent St Jago High and re-emerging Vere Technical.

Edwin Allen are strong all round and exceptional in the sprints where Kevona Davis, Kasheika Cameron and Shellece Clarke are leaders.

St Jago High boys totally outclassed the field last year, after amassing 421 points to beat runners-up Edwin Allen (132) by 289 points, while Holmwood Technical (128) were third.

Top-three positions are significant in these Grand Prix Regionals, with the winning boys and girls' schools earning $250,000, second place earning $100,000 and third place $50,000. Athletes are also in the reckoning for individual prizes, with $25,000 for record breakers and $50,000 to the top coach.
