Sterling seals it for Man City
MANCHESTER, England (AP):
Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling scored either side of Sergio Aguero's penalty miss as Manchester City beat Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0 yesterday for a second straight victory in Group F of the Champions League.
By seeing his penalty saved by goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov, Aguero missed a chance to join Eric Brook as City's all-time record scorer on 177 goals. It didn't end up costing the English club, though.
De Bruyne, playing in a deeper midfield role this season, has been central to City's great start to the Premier League and in Europe this season, but hadn't yet scored.
He ended that barren run in the 48th minute by collecting David Silva's short pass across the face of the penalty area and curling a shot into the top corner.
Sterling came on as a substitute and clinched victory in the 90th minute, crashing a finish in off the crossbar after Bernardo Silva had broken the offside trap down the right.
