Ramgeet wins Turf Paradise co-feature
PHOENIX, Arizona (CMC):
Experienced Jamaican rider Andrew Ramgeet took a share of the spotlight at Turf Paradise on Saturday when he paired with favourite Fight to Glory to win the co-feature US$30,000 City of Phoenix Stakes.
Going six furlongs, Ramgeet sent the three-year-old chestnut filly to the front to make all the running and beat the three-year-old and upwards fillies and mares by a length in one minute, 09.70 seconds.
B C Z Middleton, who beat Fight to Glory in the Princess of Palms last month, finished second, while Listo ran third.
The victory came in Fight to Glory's second start following a three-month lay-off to move her career earnings to $71,357 from four wins in nine starts.
Fight to Glory survived a bump at the start to set a hot pace, nipping through the first quarter in 21.86 seconds before completing the half-mile in 44.72, to be two lengths clear of B C Z Middleton.
In the stretch, Ramgeet easily kept B C Z Middleton at bay to take the wire confidently.
