Dehaney hoping to lead Vixens to title

Having fully recovered from a left knee injury which kept her out of action for most of last season, national senior women's team defender Kadie-Ann Dehaney is aiming to lead the Melbourne Vixens to this year's Australian Suncorp Super League title.

The 22-year-old Dehaney, who has played in two out of her team's four matches this season, told STAR Sports from her base in Melbourne, Australia, that she is much fitter and stronger this season, and she now hopes to lead her team to the top of the standings.

"Things have been going well because I am looking better every week, and I am also getting a lot stronger," said Dehaney.

"I am definitely feeling much better than last year because last year, at this point in time, I was injured, and I am hoping to help my team to win matches," she said.

Dehaney, who plays goalkeeper for the Vixens, last represented the Sunshine Girls team in 2015.

She added that she had been working hard in training to improve her game because she wants to become the top defender in the competition.

Dehaney also said, she is learning to better understand her role in the team.

"My aim is to finish the season healthy and to have a better season than last year and to help my team to win the premiership title," she said.

"I am a lot more involved with the team compared to last year when I was watching from the sidelines," Dehaney said.

"I am also adapting well to the playing conditions because I think my game has been improving with every match that I played so far this season," she said.

Dehaney, who was the captain of Jamaica's Under-21 team, which finished fifth at last year World Youth Championships, which was held in Botswana, said that she was eager to return the national set-up.

"I miss playing for the national team, so I am hoping that my performance in this competition will help to get back on the team," Dehaney said.
