My sister thinks my man is cheating

January 18, 2017

Dear Pastor,

I am 23 years old and I am having a problem. My boyfriend is 25 and I love him. I am presently working, but for a while I was not. He used to send me money when I was not working. He is living in America.

My sister and I don't get along because her boyfriend doesn't give her any money, and she is pregnant by him. She is 25 years old.

Her boyfriend is married, but they were friends before he got married. When he was about to get married, he slept with her the night before and got married the following day to another woman. While the reception was going on, someone came and told my mother that he just got married. My mother did not believe. She told my sister and my sister fainted and urinated on herself.

Every time I talk about my boyfriend, she asks me if I really trust him and how do I know that he is not cheating on me. I should consider, she said, what her boyfriend did to her and he was living right here in Jamaica.

This man, after he got married, came back to see her and admitted that he got married, but that he did not know what he was doing. He said it was his wife's people who tied him. She is still going to bed with him and she does not intend to leave him. My mother says that she will have to leave the house and go on her own as soon as her baby is three months old.

My sister is educated, but everything this man tells her, she believes. She is jealous of me and is always warning me and telling me not to trust my boyfriend. I do not believe my boyfriend is cheating on me. He told me that he is not cheating and I believe him.

Dear E.S.,

Long-distance relationships are always a challenge, but some couples have remained faithful to each other. It is quite possible for a man and his woman to live apart from each other and be faithful to each other. So, your sister should not try to put doubt in your mind about your boyfriend. Although he is living abroad, he can remain true to you.

I believe that your sister is deeply hurt by what her boyfriend did to her, so she believes all men are the same and none can be trusted. Her boyfriend was like a rattle snake. He was not true to her and his conduct was outrageous. How can a good man sleep with a woman and marry another the next day? Such a man is very wicked.

You say that your sister is educated, but how could she be educated and believe this man, who is a liar? If, indeed, he is tied to the one he married, he shouldn't visit your sister at all, because he is tied to another woman. He is wicked and despicable.

I hope that she would see to it that this man supports his child, and one day she would come to her senses and break off the relationship she is having with this man.
