Mom's breath smells horrible

January 25, 2017

Dear Pastor

My mother doesn't like to brush her teeth. She is 47 years old. How do I tell her that she has bad breath without hurting her feelings? Her breath smells horrible.

I remember, some time ago, my mother beat me and kicked me in my back, and from then, I have been struggling with back pain and I am only 24 years old.

Dear Initials Withheld

You should tell your mother face to face that she should brush her teeth after each meal. You can provide her with a good toothbrush, toothpaste and mouthwash.

Bad breath is not only caused by lack of brushing; it can also be caused from what one eats.

Your mother might not be practising proper dental hygiene and she may also have other health problems.

Bad breath can also be made worse by the types of foods you eat and other unhealthy lifestyle habits. Therefore, you need to have a quiet talk with your mother. Say whatever you want to say to her in love. Try not to give her the impression that you are cursing or rebuking her.

I am concerned about the back pain. What your mother did to you was indeed very unfortunate. Parents should never beat and kick a child. That is abuse. I suggest that you go to see a doctor. Don't ignore these pains.

I wish you well, and I will be praying for you. Do write to me again.
