My parents treat me like a child

Dear Pastor,

I am 19 years old. I will soon be 20. I am in what you may call the development stage that is considered as a young adult. However, my dad and stepmother don't consider me as someone they can trust. They treat me like a child. They don't allow me to go anywhere.

I am dating a classmate. I really like him, and he likes me, too. He even wants to come home and meet my family, but my dad would not allow that.

Please advise me what to do?

C.

Dear C.,

I wish your parents would come to realise that you are an adult. They are being overprotective. I commend you for endeavouring to be upright. However, I would suggest that you should advise your parents that there is a young man who is interested in you and he would like to meet them. It is time for you to break the ice, so to speak, and to see how your parents would react. Don't be afraid to talk to your parents about the guy who likes you. Do so as soon as possible.

Pastor
