'Half sister' wants more from daddy's will
Dear Pastor,
I am 27 years old. I am the third child of my father, but he raised three other children. These children were his girlfriends' children.
Every woman he met, he helped them with their children and he insisted that they are his because, according to him, you can't like the cow and not the calf.
One of these girls and I grew up like two sisters and according to people, we
resemble each other. My dad became ill and I could always rely on her to help him when I was not able to be by his side.
My father made a will and told her that she is on it. He also told her what is in the will and she told me that she does not believe that what he is leaving for her is enough. She wants more. I told her she is lucky to get so much.
My father is giving her two acres of land in St Thomas. He also supported her in
college. Two of my brothers told my father to take her off the will and this thing is causing a big contention.
I write to you to find out how you feel about what my father has done and this girl's reaction.

Dear S.L.,
If your father had not divulged what he put in his will, this girl would not be causing contention. That is why is it not always advisable for a person to divulge what is in his/her will.
Years ago in rural Jamaica, after a person was buried, a meeting would be called by the executors with all the family members and the will read, and that was the only time beneficiaries would know whether they were mentioned in the will.
Your father did not have to mention this young girl at all. He has done so to show his gratitude to her, but evidently she is greedy.
I hope your siblings will respect the wishes of your father and that the good relationship you have had with this young girl will continue.
Don't allow her greedy desire to break up the sweet relationship that you have had with her.
She should know by now that your father did not have to mention her into the will at all.
Pastor
