Nicki Minaj's brother charged with raping a minor
The often vocal rapper, Nicki Minaj, has remained silent on social media after her brother was charged with raping a minor, various US media outlets report.
Thirty-seven-year-old Jelani Maraj, is facing charges of first-degree rape and first-degree course of sexual conduct for allegedly assaulting a minor in Long Island, New York.
The child’s gender has not been identified by the court material so far. The Nassau County District Attorney’s Office declined to release any information on the case.
Maraj was released from jail after posting US $100,000 bail.
The rapper’s brother is due back in court next week. If convicted, each charge carries a sentence of up to 25 years in prison.
Maraj has not commented on the allegations against him since posting bail.
Just a few months ago, Maraj married his longtime girlfriend, Jacqueline Robinson in a lavish ceremony which was attended and paid for by his famous sister.
Minaj had posted a photograph of her and her sibling on Instagram at the time with the caption, “I love my brother so much man. Can’t believe I cried during his wedding and his first dance like a punk.”
The rapper continued in the post saying, “May God bless him and his union. Tonight has been one of my favorite nights of all time. I do anything to see my brothers smile.”
Minaj’s representatives have not released a statement on the charges her brother is facing.
