Suspense shows she is the ‘Female Boss’

Dancehall artiste Suspense is putting female confidence at the forefront with her latest single, ‘Female Boss’, a record created to empower women while delivering the catchy energy she believes will keep listeners coming back.

The single was released on August 7. For Suspense, the record is especially meaningful because of the message behind it and the natural chemistry that went into its creation. She explained that although she had previously worked with Countree Hype on a project that was never released, she welcomed the opportunity to reconnect creatively.

“I feel honoured to work with him again. He’s consistent and very professional,” Suspense said. One of the most distinctive elements of Female Boss is its intro, which has a personal connection to the artiste. According to Suspense, the voice heard at the beginning originated from a voice message that was sent to her phone approximately three years ago by someone who had a crush on her.

The moment eventually found its way into the song and helped set the tone for a record that Suspense and her team immediately felt had something special.

“From the day we recorded it, we knew it was one of those songs with that stick-to-you factor,” she said. At the heart of Female Boss is a message aimed directly at women. Suspense describes her target audience simply as “my lovely females”, with the song encouraging women to stand confidently in who they are without allowing assumptions or labels to define them.

“The ladies are just stating the fact that they are not promiscuous, and they can definitely feel confident when they raise their hands,” Suspense explained.

Since its release, the artiste said the response has lived up to her expectations. Women have been connecting with the record, while members of the music industry have also taken notice.

“It’s been what I expected; it’s great. The ladies dem tap in, and outside producers link me to tell me that’s my next hit,” she said. The official music video is already adding momentum to the release, currently sitting at approximately 119,000 views. At the same time, the song has generated more than 20,100 uses on TikTok, signalling growing engagement across social media.

Rather than slowing down, Suspense is already preparing more music. Among her upcoming projects are Bratz Down, produced by Weekday, and Plus 1, another collaboration with Countree Hype.
