Beenie Man signs US rapper
King of the Dancehall Beenie Man is renowned worldwide for his artistry and musical exploits. The music veteran, who has more than 30 years of experience as a performer and lyricist, has transitioned into the role of music mogul.
Beenie Man recently signed US rapper J Gunn to his MD Music label. Gunn is the first overseas-based artiste signed by the iconic dancehall star.
Beenie Man believes Gunn has the talent to become an international sensation. With his years of experience and trailblazing hits on the international scene, Beenie brings a wealth of first-hand knowledge to his new role.
J Gunn, featured on the remix of Beenie Man's recent chart topper, We Run Road, met the dancehall star late last year when he flew into the island to perform at DJ Kurt Riley's party in Christiana.
Weeks later Gunn joined Beenie Man on his European tour where he performed as opening act. Both are now set to embark on a six-country West African tour this spring.
Born Joshua Gunn, the rapper has been a fixture on the North Carolina hip hop scene for more than 15 years. He has shared stages with top acts including Public Enemy, the Fugees, Trey Songz, Cypress Hill and Young Jeezy, among othes.
In 2011 he was signed to rapper MC Lyte and television mogul James Dubose's Dubose Music Group label. The following year he was the first artiste selected for the BET Music Matters Campaign.
He can be seen the BET reality series, Music Moguls, with Damon Dash, Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri and Birdman.
