Two Scotiabank accounts have been opened to further assist with donations for ailing selector Niko Chromatic. A US account as well as a Jamaican account were opened on Monday, just a few days after a GoFundMe page was set up in the selector's name.

Kimberley Mais, the selector's spouse, told THE WEEKEND STAR that they decided to open the bank accounts after several persons requested alternative ways to donate funds after having problems with the GoFundMe account.

"Either they could not get on or there was some error when they tried to donate money. We decided that a bank account would be the best way to solve the problems," she explained. "There were also some persons who don't have credit cards and would like to donate; with this option, they are now able to do so."

Mais expressed gratitude at the help Niko has been receiving so far and encouraged Jamaica to continue pledging their support.

"For those persons who can give, we look forward to your support, and for those who do not have it to give in terms of money, we ask that you make your contributions through prayer. Keep praying for us because prayer goes a long way."

Mais hopes the funds will be raised in time for Niko to fly to Cuba for surgery as his condition is getting worse.

While Mais is happy for the support she and Niko have been receiving from the public, she expressed hurt at rumours circulating claiming that the selector's illness is a ploy to scam people out of their money.

"There are some people out there who are saying it's a scam, and that's sad, because nothing about this is made up. I mean, I understand why people would think that given the times we are now living in, but I assure you this is no scam. If it was, we couldn't't have prolonged it given his very public status," she said. "I just want people to continue pledging their support so that Niko can get back to doing what he truly loves - selecting."

Niko has been diagnosed with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and is in need of a kidney transplant.

Interested persons can donate money to the Niko Chromatic Fund at Scotiabank Oxford Road Branch. The Jamaican currency account number is 832211 and the US currency account number 832212.
