Following feuds ... Mavado takes positive route
Dancehall artiste Mavado has released a new single, 'Get Up', in which the singjay reminisces about the rougher times in his life while reminding listeners that they can persevere even when the odds are against them.
The single sees the artiste opting to go for a more gritty dancehall sound, while not eliminating his usual unique melodic touch.
The controversial recording artiste last made headlines during his feud with fellow dancehall artiste Popcaan, a feud which concluded with Popcaan choosing to put an end to the lyrical battle and issuing a public apology to his fans.
His feud with Popcaan also refuelled his battle with incarcerated deejay Vybz Kartel. That battle saw both Mavado and Vybz Kartel trading lyrical blows, while fans of both artistes weighed in on who had the heavier punches.
Speaking about Get Up, Mavado, who is now focused on more positive projects, told THE WEEKEND STAR that the song is intended to be a tool of empowerment.
REFLECTING ON LIFE
"More time, you just have to reflect on life and know say no matter where you a come from, don't look for a handout from nobody. Only you can do it for yourself, so get up. If you work, you must get pay," Mavado said.
Mavado recently headlined Howard University's homecoming festival, as well as the Grio Festival in Florida. He is also slated to perform in Freeport and Nassau, Bahamas, this weekend, and will make a well-anticipated return to Trinidad on November 12.
The I'm On The Rock singer is also set to join the Marleys for the first time as a part of the line-up on this year's Welcome to JamRock Reggae Cruise on November 14.
