While many young boys are passing the time in lockdown glued to their phones or playing video games, 12-year-old Jayden Speare and his 11-year-old cousin Jevon Gordon have been putting their imagination to good use.

The pair, who live in Brown's Town, St Ann, have been spending much of their days around a toy console crafted from wood, as they take on the persona of dancehall's most colourful selectors. A video of the two vibing to Stylo G's Dumpling has gone viral. The footage caught the attention of the UK-based deejay, who not only re-posted the video, but also reached out to the boys' parents. Stylo G told THE WEEKEND STAR that when he first saw the video, he immediately recalled his days growing up in Spanish Town.

"I used to get the roll on bottle or the spray bottle and that was the microphone for me and den mi cousin dem woulda gwaan mix like dem have a mixer and das why me gravitate to these youths straight away because I saw myself in them. It brought back memories of where I even developed my love for the music," he said. "The main reason I reached out to these youths was because I saw the passion. When we see the yutes dem have passion, we must do everything to fuel that."

It's a joy for me

He reached out to their parents and an Instagram page was created. "Next thing we know, they have over 1,000 followers. It's a joy for me to see that happen," he said.

But perhaps no one is more excited than Jayden and Jevon. They will be attending Brown's Town High School this October, and are overwhelmed at all the love.

"I want to be a policeman but I really love music. Mi father is a selector and me always watch him and mi just love how me always happy when I'm doing music things. When me and mi cousin do the selecting thing, it make we feel good and when people see it, it make dem feel good too," said Jayden. Jevon said he wants to be a soldier but also enjoys music.

"Mi love the way it make me feel and a it make we all over Instagram. A it make Stylo G see we and talk to we. Mi feel nice," he said.

Stacy Green, Jayden's mother and Jevon's aunt, told THE WEEKEND STAR that she has always supported their love for music, and was elated at the positive feedback and support from Stylo G.
