Keen on maintaining his distinct approach to music, platinum-selling artiste Charly Black is looking to drop a new single, which he believes could become his next anthem.

In an interview with THE STAR, the Gyal You a Party Animal entertainer said that as an internationally renowned dancehall artiste, he has represented the 876 with pride on the overseas circuit. He said that having travelled the globe as an ambassador of Jamaica, he has come to recognise the importance of what he dubbed a ‘yard link’. It is with that in mind that he has crafted his latest single, Yard Link, an ode to the ‘uniqueness’ of the Jamaican people.

“Mi always a represent Jamaica my way, enuh, and everyweh mi go, mi see say our people dem nuh only stand out, but dem deal wid things in a way that set dem apart from everybody else, and so everybody always wah fi have Jamaican connections. I thought a good topic to speak on right now would be that — the uniqueness of having a ‘yard link’,” he said.

“Everybody out there singing the same things right now and so I wanted to give the people something different, especially the people who are not from Jamaica but who love Jamaicans, and know the importance of keeping that ‘yard link’. As someone weh travel all over the world, memba mi tell yuh say if yuh nuh have nuh yard link, yuh nuh have no link at all.”

Uniqueness

The Billboard-charting artiste said this is not his first time penning a song about the uniqueness of his fellow Jamaicans, but says this time, all components of the song makes it hitbound.

“Memba say a mi have the song called Jamaican Everyday, innu, so this is my second song I doing for the country. Jamaican Everyday was a little bit slower, this one is a faster, more upbeat dancehall track. Mi did already have the idea fi do a Jamaican song, but when mi hear the beat, it speak to mi, and to how everything come together (the lyrics, the melody), mi know it a go be a hit,” he said.

“Eventually it’s going to be an anthem because the song a di truth and people will always relate to the truth. If yuh nuh have a yard link, yuh nuh have no link at all. Dat alone a sell the song. Most of who hear the song already, they love it, so I am already in a good state of mind as far as expectations go.”

Yard Link was produced by Canadian music producers Reggae Run Tings and Smoke Shop Studio. It is slated for release this Friday.
