The anticipation is palpable as Vybz Kartel prepares for his first live performance in nearly 14 years. Scheduled for December 31 at the National Stadium in St Andrew, the event is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about concerts in Jamaica's history.

With tickets ranging from US$125 (approximately J$19,600) to a staggering US$10,000 (approximately J$1.5 million), Kartel's loyal fans are pulling out all the stops to ensure they don't miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity--turning to GoFundMe to raise the money needed to attend.

For KD SPICE, a long-time fan, attending this concert is more than just a dream--it's a personal milestone. Having followed Kartel's career since her teenage years, she feels a deep connection to his music, which she says has profoundly impacted her life.

"I've admired his music for so long, and it's had a profound impact on my life," she shared on her GoFundMe page. With her birthday just two days before the concert, KD SPICE is hoping to raise US$1,500 (approximately J$235,200) to secure centerstage ticket.

"This is more than just a concert; it's a milestone in my life," she adds, appealing to friends and fellow fans for support.

Shadz Dadz, a long-time Kartel fan, started a GoFundMe campaign shortly after the Tier 1 ticket prices were announced.

"Just a long-time Gaza Girl trying to get her centerstage ticket for Freedom Street!!" reads her description. "Back to life! Fresh from prison... Mi waa $1,500 by a mawning."

As of press time last night, she had raised US$1,365 (approximately J$214,000) of her US$1,500 goal (approximately J$235,200), with notable support from Joseph Bogdanovich, who donated US$200 (approximately J$31,000). However, it remains unclear if this Bogdanovich is the same as Downsound's boss and promoter for Freedom Street.

The excitement surrounding the event is not just about seeing Kartel perform; it's about being part of history. After years of incarceration, the artiste's release and return to the stage symbolise resilience and a triumphant comeback.

Tracy, another devoted fan, is also counting on the generosity of others to help her attend. Despite working full-time, she cannot afford the ticket on her own and has turned to GoFundMe to bridge the gap.

"If you can buy me flowers when I pass away, I'm sure you can contribute to my ticket while I'm alive and kicking," she humorously notes on her page. Tracy has vowed to live-stream the entire concert for her donors, ensuring they feel as though they are right there with her.

For some fans, like Inika Peter, the upcoming concert is the culmination of years of unwavering loyalty. A self-proclaimed "Certified Gaza Girl," Inika has been a fan of Kartel's music since childhood. "I've been listening to Kartel's music from a very tender age, and as I grew up, the love for his music became stronger," she writes on her GoFundMe page. Inika vividly recalls the joy she felt upon hearing that Kartel would be released, describing it as a moment she had prayed for over the years. Now, she's turning to the Gaza Nation to help her finally see her idol perform live.

Even groups of friends are banding together to ensure they don't miss out. One trio of best friends, who missed out on Tier 1 tickets, has started a GoFundMe campaign in hopes of attending the show. "Life is short, and we don't want to miss this concert at all!" they write, emphasising how much the event means to them. They're counting on the generosity of fellow fans to help them bring in the New Year with "Good Vybz."
