Dancehall’s power players honoured Lady Cam rolls out red carpet for culture builders
Some of the people who pack the parties, build the buzz and keep the dancehall scene alive were given their flowers by Lady Cam, who rolled out the red carpet for a special awards ceremony and bingo extravaganza in Portmore, St Catherine recently.
Held at H2 Entertainment Complex in Bayside, the event honoured a cross-section of promoters from Portmore, Spanish Town, Kingston and St Andrew, recognising their contribution to Jamaica’s entertainment industry. The evening mixed glitz, gratitude and plenty of excitement as industry players gathered for a rare celebration of the people working behind the scenes.
“Without the promoters, there is no show, no stage, no breakout artiste,” Lady Cam said while presenting awards. “You are the engine of our culture.”
The dancehall personality said the event was her way of giving recognition to individuals whose efforts often go unnoticed despite helping to sustain the local entertainment landscape.
“Dancehall promoters contribute greatly, yet often go unrecognised. I, Lady Cam, believe in rewarding hard work and putting smiles on faces. Honouring each promoter shows their work matters, motivates others to improve, and unites the fraternity.”
Among those honoured were Don P, Maurice ‘Johnno’ Johnson of Bikini Sundays, Kirk Mathews of Pandemonium Connection, Gad Fada, and Tall Man, manager of D Unit Sound System.
