Yanique Barrett was destined for a life in media. Many are used to seeing her in front of the camera as she is the host of one of the hottest talent shows on TV in Jamaica, but what many may be unaware of is that the 'Curvy Diva' is as natural behind the camera as she is in front of it.

With a father who was well known on the local media circuit as a mentor, things came naturally to Barrett. She describes media as her passion and says she would love to do as much work behind the camera as she does in front of it.

"I grew up around TV. My father, Barry Barrett, is well known in the industry. He gave me my first real introduction to my craft and I loved every aspect of it," she said. "But my true passion is producing, being behind the camera. I can do both, I was told the camera loves me, but my true passion is being creative, coming up with ideas for TV shows and plans."

She already has plans to do more work in the area of production and with a reality TV show in the works; Barrett will no doubt get the opportunity to realise her true potential. She, however, remained tight-lipped about the details regarding the plans for the reality TV show as she and her management team are still ironing out the details.

A past student of the Northern Caribbean University (NCU), Barrett is now one of the most in-demand media personalities in the country, but Barrett told The WEEKEND STAR that it took a bit of perseverance on her part to get to where she is at today. "While I was a student at NCU, I got pregnant and everybody was like it's over for her now," she revealed. "But that gave me a push because when everybody was talking negative, I said to myself, unu ago live fi see me pan TV, man, watch and see. That passion and drive got me to where I am because mi say mi affi make it and show them."
