16 females arrested in big drug bust
Sixteen women, who were among a group of 30 people, were arrested by Narcotics police in Westmoreland last Saturday.
THE STAR understands that more than 700 pounds of ganja was also seized.
According to the police, the group was apprehended at a house in Orange Hill as they were allegedly preparing the ganja for export.
Investigators told our news team that the ganja is valued at $2.8 million.
SECOND MAJOR BUST
Those arrested are to be questioned in the presence of their attorneys and could face criminal charges.
THE STAR gathered that this is the second major drug bust in Westmoreland this month.
On February 6, 11 persons, including four Costa Ricans, were arrested by the Narcotics police in the community of Sweet River, following the seizure of approximately 1,000 pounds of ganja. The drug had an estimated street value of $4 million.
Investigations are ongoing.
