NWA assessing rainfall damages

The National Works Agency (NWA) says it is presently conducting cleaning up operations across the island and are awaiting completion before a dollar figure can be placed on the damages caused by the recent islandwide rainfall.

Quite a number of roadways have been damaged by the heavy rains which pelted the island from Sunday into late Monday, rendering some roads inaccessible.

The heavy rains have resulted in landslides, extreme flooding, and breakaways.

Yesterday, Stephen Shaw, manager, communication and customer services at the NWA, said: "We have looked at some areas. Damage assessment is not done at the same time when cleaning and clearing are taking place."

He told THE STAR that after the roadways are cleared they will be better able to provide a thorough assessment.
