Two killed in Melrose bypass crash

Up to press time last night, the police were still trying to identify the two persons who died in a motor vehicle accident along the Melrose bypass in Manchester yesterday. Four persons were also injured and admitted to hospital as a result of the four-vehicle collision that caused traffic to be diverted to the old Melrose Hill road.

Head of the Manchester Police Division, Superintendent Wayne Cameron, said that the crash happened after the driver of a trailer transporting sand towards Porus lost control of the vehicle.

Cameron said that the trailer then hit into a truck, a minibus and a Toyota Hilux pickup before overturning.

According to the police, two people travelling in the minibus were crushed to death.

Yesterday's incident adds to the recent spike in road fatalities for the past two weeks.

Earlier in the day, 28-year-old Adrian Robinson, of Williamsfield in St Elizabeth, died as a result of injuries he received from a collision along the Goshen main road in the parish. Last Monday, three people were confirmed dead and six others injured in a major collision along the North Coast Highway in Duncans, Trelawny.
