Man held with gun at party

A Hanover man who showed up at a party last weekend armed with an illegal firearm is now in police custody and is slated to be charged pending further investigations.

The man, whose identity is being withheld, was reportedly among persons dancing the night away at McPherson Lawn in Kingsvale district when the police showed up at the location at about 2:30 a.m. and carried out a search.

During the search, the man was found with a .40 Taurus Millennium pistol, fitted with a magazine containing 10 live rounds in his waistband. He was promptly taken into custody.

"He was taken by completely surprise. He didn't get a chance to ditch the weapon," a police officer told WESTERN STAR. "Normally, in a crowded situation like that, they would drop the weapon and walk away from it."

According to the police, an extensive background check will be done on the arrested man to make a determination as to whether or not he has any criminal affiliations.
