The bowed legs that catch every eyes
Last Sunday, all eyes were on Marshalee Brown and her twin sister, Marsha, as they showed off their dance moves at an event in Golden Spring, St Andrew. Not only were patrons impressed by their acrobatic moves, but they were also left to ponder how the girls, who have rickets, were so gifted.
Marshalee, 25, said she has grown accustomed to the compliments and stares.
"I would never give up these legs for anything at all because, honestly, I get a lot of positive attention, but sometimes it is too much. I remember one day, a motorist crashed into another car because he was staring at my legs and not focusing on the road," she said in between laughter.
Rickets is a condition that results in weak or soft bones in children. Symptoms include bowed legs and stunted growth.
"Persons will stare and say, 'Jesus Christ! Look pon her foot!' Them will ask if them a hurt mi and how mi feet stay like this. There are some who will ask how I manage to dance like that and say they can't even move that good, and their legs are straight. However, I have met lots of people who will readily tell me that they are in love with my legs and that they are so cute," Marshalee said.
"One time mi a walk pon Boulevard and a guy stop and offer mi some money, and I asked him why, and he said, 'Mi just a gi yuh it because mi love yuh legs dem and mi nuh know if mi a go see you back'," she recalled.
Her sister, Marsha, was not available when THE STAR spoke with Marshalee at her Drewsland, St Andrew, home yesterday. Her love for dancing dates back several years, but she stated that she has somewhat thrown in her party shoes in exchange for motherhood.
"I started partying in 2013 with my cousin, Shanice Xpressionz. She would take me to Uptown Mondays, and so on, but I kinda stop now since I have my son. Right now mi just work and take care of him," she said.
Not only is Brown versatile at dancing, but she can also hold a few notes and is often encouraged by those around her to pursue a career in rapping/deejaying. But she says she is too shy to spit a lyric in front of a crowd.
With a little encouragement from her cousin, Shanice, she gathered enough courage to rap a verse from one of Nicky Minaj's tracks and gyrated to Spice and Vibes Kartel's Backway. The love and respect for her toddler is evident as she gets cold feet after hearing his voice, stating that she doesn't allow him to see her dancing in an exotic fashion.
